LA Shorts Fest 2022 announces its award winners

LA Shorts Fest has announced the complete list of award winners for 2022 festival, which took place in Los Angeles (CA, United States) from July 4-31.

LA Shorts International Film Festival (LA Shorts) ranks among the most prestigious and largest international short film festivals in the world. The festival is accredited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and award winners are eligible for Academy nomination. LA Shorts is also an official qualifying event for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) short film awards. and the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (ACCT) presenters of the Canadian Screen Awards – eligible international film festivals. An official qualifying film festival by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Spain Goya Awards.

Best Actress

Winner: Julia Garcia Combs for “American Dream”

Best Actor

Winner: Austin Pendleton for “Ball and Vase”

Best High School Film

Winner: “When Night Falls” (USA), Directed by Luke McKinley, Cesar Renteria

Best Music Video

Winner: “Headless” (Korea), Directed by Bason Baek

Best Web Series

Winner: “Grey Nomads” (Australia), Directed by Felix Williamson

Best Horror

Winner: “The Unusualist” (USA), Directed by Mike Simses

Best Sci-Fi

Winner: “Night of the Cooters” (USA), Sci-Fi by Vincent D’Onofrio

Best Experimental

Winner: “Let’s Bring Them Alive!” (USA), Directed by Eli Sokhn

Best Documentary

Winner: “My Disability Roadmap” (USA), Directed by Dan Habib, Samuel Habib

Best Animation

Winner: “Mr. Spam Gets a New Hat” (UK), Directed by William Joyce

Best Comedy

Winner: “Moles” (Switzerland), Directed by Vanja Victor Kabir Tognola

Best Drama

Winner: “Sideral” (France), Directed by Carlos Segundo

Best Drama

Winner: “Monkey Business” (Netherlands), Directed by Everon Jackson Hooi

Best Foreign Film

Winner: “One Small Visit” (Hong Kong), Directed by Jo Chim

Best of Fest

Winner: “Ball and Vase” (USA), Directed by David Baram

LA Shorts is an Academy Award® qualifying festival for the short film categories. Winners of Best of Fest, Best Foreign Film and Best Animation will be eligible for consideration in the Animated Short Film/ Live Action Short Film / Documentary Short Film categories of the Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy Rules.
