AROUND THE WORLD IN 14 FILMS in its 17th edition honored the feature film "How is Katia?" by Ukrainian director Christina Tynkevych with the BASIS BERLIN Postproduction Award. The Berlin Festival of Festivals welcomed around 5,000 visitors this year.

BERLIN (December 11, 2022) – At the end of the 17th edition of AROUND THE WORLD IN 14 FILMS, the feature film “How is Katia?” by Ukrainian director Christina Tynkevych was awarded the BASIS BERLIN Postproduction Award last night. The film festival welcomed around 5,000 visitors this year.

As part of the 17th edition of the independent Berlin film festival, the jury – journalist Susanne Burg, filmmaker and visual artist Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese, and director and screenwriter Natalia Sinelnikova – presented the BASIS BERLIN Postproduction Award for Best Director to Christina Tynkevych, Ukraine, for her feature film debut “How is Katia?” at the Kino in der Kulturbrauerei on 10 December 2022. The jury screened the entries in the “14 Films” section of the cinematic world tour. The prize, a voucher worth 5,000 euros, was donated for the second time this year by the post-production house BASIS BERLIN.

In “How is Katia?” by Ukrainian director Christina Tynkevych Anna has just taken on a mortgage in dreams of a better life with her daughter Katia. The jury on its decision: “Christina Tynkevych tells of a woman wrestling with a personal tragedy in a world full of injustice and corruption. In a precise, sensitive and subtle way, the director shows how her characters navigate the labyrinth of life. We are very much looking forward to Christina Tynkevych’s next project.”

Even under the current difficult conditions for many cultural events, the festival welcomed around 5,000 visitors to 63 screenings (2021: 70 screenings, 5,300 visitors). AROUND THE WORLD IN 14 FILMS was shown from 1 to 10 December. From 1 to 10 December, 28 cinematic highlights of current world cinema were shown at the Kino in der KulturBrauerei and the delphi LUX and Neues Off cinemas in the presence of guests such as Mia Hansen-Løve, Guslagie Malanda and Albert Serra – and presented by prominent patrons such as Sarah Blasskiewitz, Maria Dragus, Pegah Ferydoni, Nora Fingscheidt, Banafshe Hourmazdi, Anne Ratte-Polle, Julia von Heinz, Burhan Qurbani, Alexander Beyer and Dimitrij Schaad. For the fourth time, the festival presented the “Berlinale Spotlight: World Cinema Fund” together with the Berlinale – with outstanding films made with the help of the Berlinale Initiative.

The main sponsor in 2022 was the Federal Foreign Office. The main sponsors were Audi AG, ARTE, CineStar (Kino in der KulturBrauerei) and KWK / Karl-Wilhelm Kayser.
